Yea, the i5 4690k is a bottleneck on the 1070, so an i5 750 will most definitely be a bottleneck.

No, it is not for most people. At worst you might not get to 120hz at 1080p that's about the only bottleneck. This is 1440p DSR using a 1070 paired with a 4440:

You see any of the cores ever reaching 100%?

Now the OP has a significantly older CPU so it probably would hold it back more on some games like this but the 4690k is just fine except for the very special case of low res high refresh rate as I mentioned which is a pretty bad experience visually vs 1440p 60fps.

I have the 4690k and a GTX 1070 and with all the settings at nvidia Geforce Experience recommended, I would get my CPU cores to 100% when running around in the open world. When I would turn hairworks off and AA off, then my cores would sit between 85-90%. I can tell you first hand its real.

Now if he is only running 60hz, then it will not bottleneck the 4690k, but at any refresh higher, it does.

At 1080p I bet which doesn't contradicts what I said. Also for the love of whatever deity you might worship please don't use Geforce Experience.

Anyway you should try to go to the geforce control panel to enable Dynamic Super Resolution and try 1440p (1.75x gets you the 1440p option).

If you are please post a video because well, I have. Is not fair for me to just to take your word for it when I produce the goods.

keep in mind the Q6600 severly bottlenecked my GTX 660, without ever reaching 100%  Skyrim is one example for it.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

Yes it will bottleneck. You will need a current gen quad core CPU with hyper threading for no bottlenecks at all.

I agree with the quad core part. I do not agree with the hyperthreading part.

You don't really need a 4790k or 6700k to make sure a 1070 isn't bottlenecked... A nicely overclocked 4690k or 6600k and in less CPU intensive games even CPUs like the 6500 will be totally fine running a 1070. Just because it's the second to top GPU in the market doesn't mean you need an i7 to pair with it.

It will bottleneck in CPU intensive games like: GTA V, Total War Warhammer, Ashes of the singularity, Hitman, Arma 3, Cities Skylines, The Witcher 3, Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4

Ok, maybe I was wrong about the 4690k being capable. However, I still believe a 6600k overclocked to around 4.7 or 4.8 ghz will be good considering that 4690k was running at 4.4 ghz and skylake has a 5-10% ipc improvement over haswell.

Yeah, but you will not always get 4.7 - 4.8 GHz unless you use very high voltages like 1.4V. And for that you will need a very good cooler, something better than the standard 240mm AIO. I'd say the best option for no bottlenecks is a Xeon with hyper-threading. You can get one for roughly the same price as an i5.

True, though I think 4.7-4.8 ghz is feasible. With my 212 evo I was able to easily push my 6700k to 4.6 ghz and I'm sure with more tuning 4.7 ghz is feasible. 6700k chips are slightly binned but they also utilize ht which makes them hotter so with a 212 evo I believe 4.6 ghz is definitely feasible and anything higher is possible and with, say, a 50 dollar air cooler could probably be reached. Though I do see your point on the Xeon, and that is probably a very good future proof option.
