I am posting this on the behave of my friend who is building a new pc, I have tried to help him to the best of my ability and It has stumped me. The pc will boot just fine into the bios without the card, but with the card the power led flashes and nothing happens. We have tried to take the card out and go in to the bios and set the default to pcie but it goes back to auto every time with no luck. My guess is the card might be dead but this is my friend first pc and I dont want to provide such bad news without being 100% sure. So if you guys have any idea of why It will not post that would be appreciated.

Thanks.

EDIT: I have also updated the bios to latest 1902

Yes, I did connect the dispay to the gpu Instead of the mobo

Does he have another GPU he can test? or even another PC to test his current GPU?

Make sure all the PCIe cables are properly connected (for sanity's sake). Maybe try the card in a different PCIe slot, or even an entirely separate system too, just to rule out some PCIe slot problem or something.

And also, what @Ichi said. It's always the little things that trip people up.

Do you get any beep codes at all from your motherboard, or status LED readout?

Also, what PSU are you using, and do you know for sure if it, or specifically the PCIe cables, work properly?

Its a EVGA 600W. We have tried the card in a different slot with the same problem and Im 99% sure the PCIe cables were properly connected. There were also no beep codes

The only thing that happens is the power led flashes once.

EDIT: This is first pc and also does not have a pc to test the card on

That... complicates things. Still, have your friend test the card in multiple PCIe slots if possible, as well as any desktop computer that he has nearby, if any.

Also, tell him to check the motherboard box for a beeper, such as one like this. If one was included, he can plug it in and get beep codes, which can be used to narrow down if the card is dead or not

He found the beeper that came with it and he said there was no beeps

Huh. And still nothing spins up or lights up at all? The power button just briefly flashes and then powers down?

We were able to produce a beep by removing the ram to confirm the speaker worked. Still no beeps with the gpu.

Odd. Do you have any other graphics card to use for testing? And does the system spin up at all with the graphics card plugged in? As in, do any fans start moving at all, or any lights turn on and stay on?

The signs are increasingly pointing to a dead graphics card, unless there's some BIOS setting that's causing problems (though without looking I really couldn't tell you).

Without another graphics card to test with, it's hard to draw further conclusions as to what parts aren't working.

Last Resort, you could try the following:

- Toggle things in the UEFI BIOS that looks like it can affect the graphics adapter settings

- Clear CMOS on the motherboard to reset the UEFI BIOS to defaults

- RMA the card, and run off of the integrated Intel graphics until a replacement arrives

You did connect the PCIe power to the 1070?

Also, if you did connect power to the 1070, make sure it's the proper PCIe power and, if you have a modular PSU, make sure the PCIe cable is plugged into the proper port on the PSU.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

Yes

There is only 1 end and only 1 way for it to fit.

And its non-modular
