That CPU most assuredly is bottlenecking your GPU. You need a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Also, don't get odd numbers of RAM such as 12 GB.

Its bottlenecking but not allot with the firestrike bench, its not a HUGE bottlneck

Hello,
I am thinking if it is time to buy something new instead of this old socket 1366 Xeon x5660 cpu.
It is overclocked to 4.2ghz but i am not really sure how this compares to the newer processors like 4790K or 6700K or something similair to that when it comes to playing games as witcher 3 or overwatch and other new games.

With this socket I also only have pci-e 2.0 and I have some old RAM back from when i7 920 was kinda new and this motherboard doesnt have the best sata ports either. With all those things I wonder if its worth to get something new like the ones i mentioned. I am looking to play at pretty high settings on newer games.

These are my current specs:

Also wondering if this kinda bottlenecks my GTX 1080

I did a 3dmark firestrike test and got this result:

I have Hyperthreading turned off since I'm not sure all those extra threads does anything on games.

Maybe a new cooler for the cpu and overclocking abit more if enough for the current games with a 1080 I have no idea. Most games run fine but just want to know if it will be a decent boost to get new things since some of my things are pretty old.

Any ideas are weclome :)

I will most likely not respond to you in a thread unless you quote me.

I'm a educated fool with money on my mind.

They say i got to learn but nobody here to teach me,if they can't understand it how can they reach me

Power and the money, money and the power, minute after minute, hour after hour

My Motivation

OMG wow, that 1080 outclasses your CPU multiple times over. Upgrade your motherboard, cpu, and RAM, because all of them are outdated.

Well that was a knee-jerk reaction. Look, you will see about a 30% increase in performance if you upgrade your cpu to skylake, at the bare minimum. You should do it. You don't have to if you are satisfied with your experience, but you will see some marked improvements in pretty much everything that you do with that computer.

Hmm, that doesnt seem like a huge difference at all. Wonder if it is the same in games.

Well try to find someone on the forum with a i7 6700k and a GTX 1080 and if hes willing to do a comparison

That does sound good and on top of that I would get all the new stuff on newer motherboards that I might not have thought about.
