HELP!!!! Dropped my camera in saltwater

HELP! While on vacation i was taking underwater footage with my Vivitar DVR 785HD. It has a waterproof case which I was using but out of the case it is not waterproof. Inside the case the camera lens fogged up. And the idiot i am opened it up above the saltwater to wipe the fog off. And what do you know i dropped it! Miraculously the sd card survived and all of the pics and video are ok, but unfortunately the camera did not. Can you help me try to fix it? Right back when i got to the hotel I put it in rice. I am home now and it is still not working. Any suggestions?

if its still not working, then you are likely screwed man. Hate to put it so bluntly, but likely got short circuited PCB's inside.

Thanks anyway. Well, guess it's time to start looking for a GoPro or Gopro alternative

It's a long shot but you could leave it in a bag on rice for a while, Hoping that the rice will draw out the moisture. This will not fix salt left on the lens.

That is what i am doing now, maybe leave it in there for a week or 2. It is most likely dead. there is still signs of hope, the battery led lights up.

Immediately Take the Camera apart, and give it an isopropyl alcohol bath.

Rice won't do anything really especially if there is corrosion if you can tear it down completely you can bath it in 99% isopropyl alcohol and clean off any potential corrosion or residue on the PCB and displace any remaining water.

Around a year ago, I accidentally dropped my Sony RX100 in sea water. It was under water ~5 sec and the pop up flash popped open, allowing the water a free way in.

The camera was not on, and I took the battery and the memory card out fast. The data on the card was fine. I let the camera dry for a week at home (on my cpu radiator :D). I put the battery back in and tested it - and it worked. However I knew that the camera had salt in it which would eventually corrode the cameras insides. A couple of months later it stopped working after using it in moist conditions. Also I used to use it from kayak at sea during paddling trips, which might have hastened it's death as some salt might have accumulated over time. Pity, it was a great pocket camera...
