Booting Windows 10

Hi, im new to this forum and kinda new to PC builds as well. Love this channel and find it real helpful. 

 

Now enough of the introduction... Basically i want to boot windows 10 onto the PC like a normal person would, however im wondering if you can boot it off a portable hard drive instead of a flash drive? Also if you can can use the same windows 10 creation tool to create the media used for the boot and store it on the portable hard drive? Is it the exact same concept with a portable hard drive as it is with a flash drive???

It doesn't matter if you use a flash drive or an external Hard drive .

An external hard drive is almost something like a bigger flash drive.

Yeah but putting the iso on there like a flash drive will wipe any data that's currently on the drive.

Thanks for telling me that! However it will be a brand new portable hard drive because im buying one to keep a backup of my new PCs documents and stuff! If it had anything on there, would partitioning the drive stop it from deleting the other stuff?

I would assume so, but it's worth doing a bit of research into it just in case. (I'm not really an expert on this stuff)

Just to say that i tried saving the file to boot from the hard drive and it didnt recognise it as a flash drive... instead i had to burn onto a disk, thank god i have an optical drive!
