Will the cpu be good enough?

Hi everyone,

 

In about 2 months i will build my new pc, i will not do it earlier because the delivery of the GTX 1060 has not yet started here.

But before i'm throwing all of the needed components in my shopping cart, i want to know if i actually need a new cpu.

The point is that at the moment i have a Intel i5 4460 in my system and it is doing it's job quite well in combination with a GTX 760. I have it for 2 years now with the stock cooler and it runs all games very smoothly.

So do i need to upgrade my cpu? Is it going to bottleneck with a GTX 1060? Linus said that getting anything above a quad-core is probably overkill and i should be better off with a better graphics card. I am going to run the games on a single 1920x1080 monitor, so i'm not putting my games on a 4k resolution. I'm also putting a water cooler on it, so no worries about temps.

You don't need a new cpu and also I wouldnt recommend you get a water cooler since a decent air cooler is enough for a stock intel cpu

Ok, thanks. But it's not a stock cpu (does a stock cpu even exist?) the cooler that is on it is stock. It does the job, but i have seen some thermal throttling when it came to video rendering.

You don't need an improved CPU. what you have should be plenty for your GPU, and plenty if you upgrade toa  1060.

I would not recommend a water cooler for a stock intel chip. If you want to get it for aesthetic reasons, there are a lot of cheap and good looking air coolers out there. It is going to make 0 difference in performance, and probably no difference in acoustics over a aftermarket air cooler.

By stock I mean the cpu is not overclocked and operates at it's stock clock speeds. The stock intel cooler isn't that good but you don't have to get a water cooler to get great cooling performance. The h7 air cooler is cheap and performs very well.

Why actually is a ''stock'' cpu? And why do you not recommend a water cooler? I don't really care if it gives 0 perfomance increase, it's just looks cool

Allright thanks, but i just think a water cooler looks cool  I'm a bit like Linus...
