Curved UltraWide

Go to solution Solved by roughavoc,

I own one:

  • Colour reproduction 10/10
  • White Balance: 10/10
  • 100hz: 7/10, is not 144hz and the difference is noticeable
  • Curve: 10/10, I do not notice it, but that I think is the point, to make the screen seem flat for you instead of having the edges away from you.
  • Ultrawide Experience: 10/10 nothing really like it, when games support it (only Overwatch doesn't properly that I play) it makes experience so much better
  • G-Sync: 10/10, I forgot what tearing was, went to friends house with a non adaptive sync monitor and was horrified at what I was seeing

So everything seems pretty good about the screen, what could possibly be bad about it??

  • The stand is shit, wobbles all the time
  • Locks you to Nvidia
  • The monitor may have coil whine along with many other may have problems (BLB, not getting 100Hz)
  • It costs a metric fuck load, but you're purchasing a 1080 which is the biggest rip off atm so that doesn't seem to be a problem

As for successors, I don't think there will be any majorly improved versions this year, maybe start or middle of next year there will be a 144hz or higher curved ultrawide but I don't think that would make this screen obsolete.

TLDR: Ya its worth it

Im planning on selling my 980 and upgrading to a 1080 and also getting an Ultrawide. Currently looking at the Acer Predator. Mainly wondering if anyone thinks the monitor is worth it anymore and also opinions on whether or not the 1080 can Ultra games like Witcher 3 at native Predator res.

If anyone has suggestions on a better Ultrawide Curved monitor let me know

What do you mean "if the monitor is worth it anymore". And yes, the 1080 will be able to handle it very well. It does a pretty good job of 4k Games, the 3440x1440 resolution is much easier to run.

Worth it as in should I buy it now or is it going to have a successor very soon. And thanks for the info on the 1080

Well the Acer X34 is about to have its own X34P successor at some point soon. It was announced at Computex, but with no release date. It gets rid of that horrible glossy back panel in favor of a matte finish. It now ships at 100 Hz and overclocks to 125 Hz, rather than shipping at 60 Hz and overclocking to 100 Hz. It has an improved stand that can now rotate and is more sturdy, although its much more bulky in comparison to the X34 default stand. It is also rumored to have better backlight bleed control, but there is no real way to know that for sure. The panel is slightly more curved in the X34P as well, but its not hugely different in that regard.

Of course, the X34P is going to be more expensive than the X34 in order to get all these improvements. Other than that I'm unaware of a newer or better monitor coming out that could beat the X34. The only other competing monitor currently available is the Asus PG348Q, but its not really any better or worse. Mostly an aesthetic difference.

Nothing says "rip off" like the best gaming GPU in the world lol.

Not sure what point you're trying to make...

I mean in Canada it's the same price as the 980 when it came out, roughly $800 CAD, I may wait for the inevitable 1080 Ti anyways because ill have to save up for a bit if no one wants to buy my obsolete for the price 980

Well the new Titan X is the best in the world but that doesn't make it worth the money.

It is very roughly 25% faster than a 1070 but costs 55% more (in the UK atleast). But if you have the money and want the performance.
