Hello everyone. I've run into a rather strange audio problem and after trying everything i could think of and failing i think i could use some of your help...So i will go into full detail to help you understand the best way possible. So after a clean install of Windows XP Professional (pirated version) i went on and downloaded as usual the audio drivers for my motherboard from the manufacturer's site ( AsRock 775i65G R2.0), i proceeded installing the drivers but when i tried to play music or videos i would get mixed results (bear in mind that i am using headphones) . Sometimes the sound would come from both left and right ear piece completely fine as expected . Some other times the sound would only come from the left earpiece ( at 100% though) . And most of the times the sound will only come from the right earpiece ( but not at 100% , it is so low i can barely hear it). I've uninstalled the drivers and installed them again but to no avail. Also whenever i plug in the headphones i get no notification that they have been plugged in and i cant find them in the device manager as well. Also when i do have sound from both earpieces (or at least the left one which gives 100% sound) that will not last a lot of time. Sometimes it will stop working even when i am hearing something and it will go back to only playing sound from the right earpiece at a very low level as it does usually . I really have no clue what's going on so any thoughts would be highly appreciated ! Thanks in advance.

Did you try using another set of headphones?

This, or try the headphones on another PC to see if you can replicate the issue.

EDIT

Ninja'd. If your sure the headphones are fine then you need to try another set in your PC, it might be that the jack is faulty on the mobo.

Alright so i checked my mobile phone's headphones and i can confirm that they are working fine (although when i play music the sound isnt crystal clear). So i guess it is indeed a problem with the jack of the mobo... Not sure why though since the jack of both of my headphones is almost identical...
