Hey LinusTechTips community

Big fan of the channel and I've been redirected here from the videos of course :) So I'm investing a lot of money in a high end build and I'm not quite sure for which cooling and case I should settle.

Specs so far:

Motherboard: Asus Z170-Deluxe Mainboard Sockel 1151

CPU:  Intel Core i7-6700K Prozessor (8MB Cache, LGA1151, 4GHz)

GPU: 2x  Asus ROG Strix-GTX1080-O8G-Gaming Nvidia Graphiccard

Bridge:  NVIDIA GeForce GTX HB SLI-Bridge (2-Way)

Ram: Corsair CMK32GX4M4B3200C16 Vengeance LPX 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 3200Mhz XMP 2.0 High Performance Desktop Memory

Power Supply: Corsair CP-9020073-EU HXi Serie HX850i ATX/EPS Fully Modular 80 PLUS Platinum 850W

Storage:

1x Samsung 950 pro m2 ssd 256gb

1x Samsung 850 evo ssd 250gb

1x  Toshiba P300 2 TB HDD

About the cooling system I'd like:

I'd be okay with a liquid cooling system as I can help from someone to set it up for me I just want to get the most optimal cooling system for the parts I'm running. Nothing too overpriced if I can avoid it

About the case I'd like:

It should just be cool to look at especially if I put in some lights.

Also should I get some fans?

Kind regards

Hello thanks for the response but this one isn't transparent at all which is something I wish for :) Also isn't the case I'm going to chose from dependent on the cooling system I'll get?

It's a good idea to check the sizes and everything but that link is actually decent for that kind of cpu's cooling needs.

For the case, I suggest the Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV Tempered Glass. It's beautiful if done right with a bit of lighting and proper cable management. As for the cooler, the Kraken X61 is one of the best at the moment and it's not overly expensive.

As for other suggestions, I'll say you've gone a bit overboard on the RAM and motherboard. You won't be needing more than 16GB and you could get the ASUS Z170-A which has all the features you should need.

You might also considering ditching the SLI setup and waiting for the Titan X instead and see how that turns out. Because, frankly, SLI is a pain to deal with.

Hey thanks for the response. Can you please elaborate why you think SLI is a pain to deal with? Once its installed it should work just work normally or am I mistaken here? My friend is saying that I should not get a closed circuit cooler since it wont cool my GPUs. Do I really need to cool my GPUs? If yes I guess I need a liquid cooling system?

SLI is a pain because of several reasons:

-Microstuttering.

-Games may vary in SLI support. In some cases, there might not be any SLI support at all, giving you only the power of one GTX 1080.

-More heat.

-More power consumed.

The Kraken X61 is basically plug and play. Just use it on the CPU, GPUs already have a cooler attached to keep them from imploding. Usually custom coolers (the STRIX, for example) are a way better choice over blower style coolers (Founder's Edition) due to lower temps and noise.

I'm alright with point 2 and 4.

Could you please elaborate on the microstuggering? Also can't I solve the heating problem with a proper cooling system? I thought since I'm using the strix I'd have less of a heating problem.

To put it simply, multi-GPU setups are notorious for causing stuttering on-screen.

Naturally, when you think about it, two cards side by side is going to produce more heat. Especially since one of them isn't receiving as good ventilation as the other due to their positioning. I wouldn't be expecting dangerous temperatures but temperatures will be worse than that of a single, stronger card.

Uhm weird. I've seen a lot of people having 2 GPU set ups and they haven't been complaining. I've decided to wait for the titan anyway. Thanks for your help.

I should have clarified. Stuttering isn't always a thing, it just so happens to be somehow more prominent than on a single GPU. Anyhoo, glad you held out for the Titan X.

Yeah it looks super amazing. Could you maybe suggest me a few more cases? :) I liked the other one you suggested so you seem to have a good taste! Thanks
