Windows 10 Upgrade Help

The windows 10 free update date is looming and i am trying to do the update, however i am unable to update using windows updater, keeps failing and spewing out an error message, i was going to try to update using an .iso file but am worried it will wipe my hard drive. Has anyone tried this and if so what happened?

The specific error message would be very helpful.

I recommend upgrading via the media creation tool (google it, the official microsoft link should be first hit)

When using this method it allows you to create a bootable USB drive with the win10 install on it. Once you have created it, boot from the USB and you should be given the option to upgrade or clean install.

 

However, as with anytime you are installing an OS or something drastic, make sure you have a backup!!!!! Shit can always go wrong and make sure that anything super important is saved on another disk as well.

Do it manually with the Media creation tool. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/

Go to the site and click download tool now.

i'm assuming creating a system image will be a sufficient back up incase something catastrophic goes wrong

I would think so but always do an extra back up on an external drive before an upgrade just in case.
