Overclocking q9450

So I'm wanting to overclock my q9450 but the problem is my bios on my mobo doesn't want to update. The mother board is a Biostar TP43D2‑A7. I need to update the BIOS because 1. Its a good Idea to and 2. The lowest voltage setting is 1.5v on the vcore. I don't know what to do as I'm new to overclocking in general.

I'm just curious but are you sure the BIOS is not already up to date? If it isn't, do the notes for that BIOS update say if it improves voltage options?

 

BIOS updates are one of the riskier updates to pull off, and most people avoid doing them unless they a) add features that people really want (i.e better voltage control), or b) add compatibility for components, namely processors.

 

EDIT: Maybe double-check what the voltage for your processor is by going into your OS (I presume Windows) and using something like CPU-Z to see what the reported CPU voltage (VCore, I think) is. If you're stuck at 1.5 Volts, I guess you could make the best of the situation by pushing up your clock rates to use some of that rather high CPU voltage

 

EDIT 2: Also, check out this overclocking guide here on the forum. LGA 775 overclocking is a bit more complicated than later sockets because it's FSB-based, as opposed to the easier multiplier-based

The Base clock voltage is regular aroun 1.2 but the only overclocking options are 1.5 and other presets that are higher.
