I was going to put this in CPU's but thought I'd put it in Off-Topic instead but I'm just a little curious.

I've just bought one of those Woodcrest (basically Conroe I think) CPU's that is suppost to be fully operational for £2.50 off eBay (I like CPU's OK, lets not make a federal case out of this) and I'd really like to have it in a system but since it uses Socket 771 (Socket J I think) and I have no idea what to do, I thought it was Socket 775 but after the order was made I noticed that it was in fact 771 and not 775.

I wasn't planning on getting a system working with this but I've had a think and would like to now, also I know that it is pointless so we can avoid the inevitable ''It's pointless, no point in doing it'' speech.

Anyway, any idea's?

Well it would suck to find out the proc is dead after you bought a board. But good luck on your search.

Also noticed you're CPU, Clarkdale ehh, my mate used to have one of those, damn good CPU though getting a little aged now

They're champs though when it comes to OCing. I've got an extra 600MHz on it coming in at just over 1.16V. Cooling is the bigger issue right now.

Are you going to get some decent cooling for it?

A CPU I really lusted after when it was released thought I couldn't afford it was the Intel Core i5-655K, damn I wanted one lol

As of right now, no. I got a proc upgrade coming down the tubes. Even on a heavy OC, it's not gonna be keeping up for too much longer.

You can put a socket 771 CPU in a socket 775 motherboard.

I know but not all chipsets are compatible with the mod and also I know you can mod LGA 771 CPU's into an LGA 775 motherboard but thanks for commenting :)
