Upgrading, need advice

Go to solution Solved by antisleep,

Here's the build with all things considered.

PCPartPicker part list

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  (£0.00)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 67.8 CFM Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler  (£67.25 @ Amazon UK)

^picked this one in case you want good temps when deciding to overclock to 4.4+ Ghz
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170-Gaming K3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  (£306.00)

^£306 bundled with processor
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory  (£74.99 @ Amazon UK)

^saved a few pounds by going with faster 8x2 sticks
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (£72.99 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  (£57.54 @ CCL Computers)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GAMING Video Card  (£300.00)

^You're looking at lower total price since the price set here is a bit exaggerated. You can get good 1060 aib's for £260-280
Case: Corsair Carbide 400C ATX Mid Tower Case  (£84.95 @ Amazon UK)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  (£79.99 @ Amazon UK)

^550w is sufficient but went with 650w variant to give you more headroom for just £10 more
Total: £1043.71

if you can spare another 30-40$ you should get 16gb of ram its not needed or anything but for some uses its pretty good to have

I was considering this heavily, yes.

You think everything else looks good?

Thanks for your input

Do you think I can save a bit on the CPU cooler?

If you're willing to go for air coolers, why yes.

be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 (£67.25)

Cryorig H7 (£27)

What's your overall budget btw?

Yes you can if you want. Something like an Alpenfohn Matterhorn Pure edition would do fine.

Also I think it works out slightly cheaper if you buy the i5 6600K and the Gigabyte K3 as a bundle.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/gigabyte-z170-gaming-k3-intel-core-i5-6600k-bundle-10-pounds-saving-bu-026-gi.html

And for the Ram I would go with 2 x 8GB rather than 4 x 4GB. It works out cheaper as well.

Around 1.1k

At the moment it's around 1k + CPU cooler price

Would the Cooler Master be a good option?

Ah thank you for the good spot with the bundle and the ram, saves £39 in total :)

Yeah I just need something that does the job; well.

Would you recommend this? : http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/hmtCmG/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rr212e20pkr2

This is excellent thank you for your input!

As for the GPU, on the actual GeForce website, it's advertised for £275.00 (http://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/10series/geforce-gtx-1060/) saving £15

Or do you have any other suggestions of what I could get?

Once again, thanks :)

Stick with the 1060, preferably EVGA/Gigabyte/ASUS/MSI.
