RX 480 is performing at or better than the 970 and costs less, has double the Vram too.

E7-8890 V3 x2 , 12TB DDR4 @ 1866, Quadro K6000's + 2x GTX 1080's.

I'd get the RX 480 since it is faster, has more VRAM and it is cheaper. I would wait for an aftermarket cooled card from Sapphire, XFX, MSI or Powercolor though.

With the PSU, it is probably worth spending slightly more to get a RM550x, since it is a much better unit and in only costs a couple dollars more.

The cards with better coolers and by other makers are known as AIB (all in board partner) or Aftermarket.

E7-8890 V3 x2 , 12TB DDR4 @ 1866, Quadro K6000's + 2x GTX 1080's.

aftermarket refers to cards that are using different heatsink and/or pcb designs from the reference model. also, any gtx 1060 for around the same price or slightly more? its a better performing option if you can get it for a few bucks more.

RX 480 is clearly superior to the 970.

If you can get the 1060 for the same price - it's about 5-10% faster.
