I tried to clean up one of my mom's old computers today. I cleaned the CPU cooler and the GPU cooler. But when I got the thing reassembled the machine won't boot up. By "won't boot up" I mean the computer constantly switches on and off each about 5 seconds without outputting any signal, and I don't think it gets into BIOS or something because the display was constantly all black. If the specs help, the CPU was a Core 2 Duo, the GPU was a 9800GT (I think, because it was so old that it wasn't even following Nvidia's current naming rules), and the motherboard was a Gigabyte GA-P43-ES3G. And no, my mom refuses to throw it away.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My mom was still mad at me. I feel so bad.

Did you remove any of the RAM sticks, if so, did you put them in their right dimm slots? It could be that the slot(s) is not working. Just try and troubleshoot these kinds of things and put everything back where they were before you started to clean the pc.

I didn't even touch the RAMs. I just got the CPU out and the Graphics card out to clean their coolers. And that's all.

it could be a grounding issue. Make sure the screws are not too tight, sometimes the motherboards standoffs  may touch the circuit and stuff.
