Help with MBR

Go to solution Solved by Vbgf,

It seems there isn't any legit way of fixing this within windows, The solution that worked for me is to download a windows repair iso (i'm downloading instead of using the built in thingy in windows cuz i have a flash drive and not a disc) and put it on a USB stick.

So, as i stand i am currently in my OS(win 7 ult) but i screwed my MBR so if i restart i will no longer be able to get in my OS. Any suggestions how to fix the MBR within windows, i don't have the install disc with me nor does the bootrec.exe /fixmbr does the job in cmd prompt (tells me there is no such thing as bootrec.exe or bootrec for that matter).

Oh! Bugger, what did you do mate? If that was me I would try a system repair, this should replace, or rather put back, any missing Windows files and hopefully restore your Master Boot Record.

To do this you will need to download a Windows ISO image from the net and burn this to a DVD. Just type Windows ISO into google and you should get plenty of results.

Do you still have your Windows product key?

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

Yeah I've fixed a similar issue when I incorrectly installed/uninstalled a dual boot system. You don't need a product key just a regular windows 7 .iso and repair.

Another option if it works I can't remember, but are you able to press F8 and get anything? If so you can access recovery from there, open a prompt and type bootrec /fixmbr

Something like that anyway. I'm not sure you'll be able to get that far though worth a shot.

Also the thing that i did was to install Ubuntu alongside win7 , found out that was unstable as balls and wanted to remove. Went to my windows and deleted the partition cuz everybody suggested that. But the freaking stupid installer had replaced the bootloader from the win one to some linux based one, installed of course on the ubuntu partition that the installer had managed to screw as well. And now with the removed win thing i don't want to reboot cuz i will most likely need to use another PC to, download a repair iso , put on USB stick and repair the damn thing. I'd better do it within my OS if it is possible.
