Get a h170 board if you're not overclocking. Rest is good. 1070 is a great 1440p card. You don't need an optical drive. You can download an iso from windows website to load os unless you need it for something else

Unsure what power supply to pick?

Check out my HTPC build.

Get an i7 6700 or an e3 1231 v3, the i5 will bottleneck the gtx 1070. Dont get a z170 board with a non-k cpu. The supernova NEX isnt that good, get a supernova non-NEX or any seasonic/XFX non-XT instead.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

The difference between skylake and haswell is only 10 percent. The 6500 and the 4690k will perform similar with the 4690k edging out the 6500 once you oc it. It WILL bottleneck.

I changed the motherboard, got rid of the optical drive, and changed the i5 to an i7. Would this be better?

You're going to justify your argument with one video? And everyone on toms hardware says otherwise. The i5 6500 will not bottleneck a gtx 1070.

And the only thing you benefit from the i7 is hyper threading, there is barely a difference between single core performance between the i5 6500 and the i7 6700. Good job, you made this guy spend more money than he needed to for a processor which power he will never fully use.
