TL;DR

(I want to reset EVERYTHING about my computer to Factory Settings so I can do everything exactly how I want it)

Hi

I'm not the best with words so I'll keep it basic

Basically i'm wanting to completely redo my room setup and gaming setup so I need some advice.

What i'm wanting to do is...

  • Clean my computer (dust etc.)
  • Wipe my computer
  • Reset my motherboard and all other computer components
  • Upgrade to Windows 10
  • Install all the apps I want

(I have 9 days until Windows 10 is no longer free RIP)

What order should I do this?

I'm thinking..

  • Clean my computer (Air in a can) - Fans, any dust on the drives, dust on the case and then wipe it all down
  • Wipe my Computer
  • Then reset motherboard to default settings
  • Upgrade to Windows 10
  • Install drivers and what not

QUESTIONS

1. Do I need to install my computer drivers and graphic card drivers before I upgrade to Windows 10? Or, should I do it after?

2. I assume only these parts have custom settings: Motherboard, SSD, HDD and Graphics Card? And if so, how would I go about resetting these things?

1. i wouldnt upgrade, just grab your win7 key and do a clean fresh install of winX from a USB with the latest media creation tool

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/

2. WinX comes with alot of drivers so you might dont need to install many afterwards

only GPU i guess

3. after formatting the HDD SSD there shouldnt be "custom"/partition settings so you dont have to worry about that

and your GPU only gets custom settings if you OC it, just use the software like msi afterburner thats been used and put the settings back to normal

clear CMOS

i'd put all the drivers and software i need on a usb drive before i wipe everything

doublecheck if you saved everything thats important -> backup

then format everything and clean it with canned air

( dont forget the peripherals display etc,a bit warm water on cloth is ok for keyboard/mouse )

maybe check cable management etc if anything could be improved ;)

and last but not leat install the fresh new system + drivers afterwards

First back up and wipe, then clear CMOS. Install win10 and then install drivers and dust.

For mobo, pop battery out for 15s (when not conencted to wall powerline). SSD and HDD will be handled by formatting (can be done in Win setup). GPU is just clean sheet without drivers. Install drivers and they use default factory settings.
