A custom desk concept

Hello all  

I was thinking about wanting to have a custom desk made for my room. I live in the UK and was wondering:

• If I were to design a model of what I wanted, would any company make it for me? Any companies in the UK that do that sort of thing?
  • Do companies even do that kind of stuff for you? or not really?
• Has anyone done this before?
• How much would one cost? (If anyone has had one made before, could you give an estimate? )

 

I've been wanting to do this for quite a while now and I have a rough idea of how I'd want my desk but like, I have no skill in woodwork(ing) to be honest, lol  I can model it using certain software but like, I just don't want to buy another desk that looks good and turns out to be not what I expected. At the moment I have a corner desk (L shape) and an extension table making it a U shaped desk and to be fair, I'd want to make this new one have dedicated space for things like cable management. Other things like draws would be nice but do companies just do the wood part(s) and that's it?

 

If anyone has done this before, I'd be very interested to see the progress and/or finale of how it went; like as a build log or something perhaps!

Keep in mind, It's not one of those desks in which the computer/rig is built into the desk... I don't like or trust that concept but that's just my opinion.

Not entirely sure about the UK, but various wood workers will take on custom projects. 

 

Best thing to do is to look up a few wood workers (maybe small home made furniture shops?) and show them a rough rendering of what you are looking for and ask them for an estimate (most are no obligation free estimates).

 

The price will vary greatly depending on how complex your design is, what kind of wood you are looking for, your timeline to complete the project, etc.
