Reviving a (probably) dead graphics card?

My friend's 970 suddenly caused his computer to just not  power on at all. I popped the 970 into my computer (which was working perfectly fine) and I had the same issue. My computer wouldn't boot. Any reason why this would be, and any way to fix this?
