Before i start i would like to point out that i am writing this late at night and i'm a bit tired and that i'll be adding extra details tomorrow if needed.

So i got my hands on this hp server ( hp dl something g6 ) and its motherboard doesn't work but all its other parts are working fine including a raid controller ( it's pci 4x i think it's like half a normal gpu slot) that's connected to some sas drives.

And i've been wanting to build a local nas for a while now because i have lots of like low storage drives lying around (80-300GB) so i thought that i should prob make use of them.

Now here comes my question. is there a way to use the raid controller in a regular pc without needing a server board? and if so how powerful should the pc be in order to run it ? (like which cpu and how many ram do i need etc.)

I don't want to just fix the server because it's gigantic and it's really noisy and afaik there is no good way to connect my sata drives to it.

Or is there a server board that i can buy that can use the cpu's and the raid controller from the dead server without having that annoying bios (that forces fan speeds etc.) and it being too expensive?

Thanks in advance :D
