A general tip for overclocking a GPU.

Tom Hanks

Look at the best results, also look at review results.

Aim for a known overclock ratio, say +25mv and +130 mhz on the core is a average overclock, hit that.

Once done and stable, aim for the best but 1 notch below, if you can't do it even with max voltage, customize the bios.

Going up slowly only slows you down, just crank it.

In general this works for CPU's too, stock 2.66ghz E5640, i cranked it straight to 4.0ghz at first with a low ram divider and pushed voltage slightly.. completely stable, hit 4.7ghz at 1.42v but almost broke the board as i had to OC the PCI-E.

If you gonna overclock do it properly or do not do it at all.

Others have gotten close to me.

What do you mean customize the bios? Flash them?

Does it really make that big of a difference if they're flashed? I thought it only affected 2D clock speeds and that.

Unlocking extra TDP limitations and voltage.

My 670 was limited to 122% power, now it does 150%. Boosts to 1280mhz with only +50 on the core from 980mhz.

Hm. I've increased the power limit through the registry, but I haven't played around much with the bios. Perhaps I'll have to give it a shot.

That's a pretty hefty OC though. What kind of return did you get on that?

Be careful there is always risks involved, take precaution and read everything you can before bios flashing.

Google will help you, there are plenty of guides, just Google your GPU and put bios mod after it.

Oh yeah, I know. I've played with it before, and my card has switchable bios.
