SLI and placement

Hi, so I got a SLI rig and where lucky and got a 88~90% perf boost and where wondering if the placement of the cards can be anything? I got a GA-Z97X-UD3H motherboard. so basicly > Do I need to use the first two PCI slots?

First slot is running at x16 lanes

Second slot is running at x8 lanes

and thied slot at x4 lanes

 

So it would be better to use first two.

Also if you use 3rd slot for GPU, you won't be able to use any of those x1 slots for PCI cards, like Wifi etc.
