just wondering what the difference is, all I can figure out is the the inbuilt apu graphics can be crossfired with lower end cards but other than that there is no difference between the two.

A CPU and a Graphics card is by far the best solution, in terms of graphics and fps, if that is what you are asking.

Intel Core i7 6700K@4,3GHz - Asus Z170 Pro Gaming - Corsair Vengeance 16GB 2666MHz DDR4 - Evga SuperNova 750W PSU - Samsung EVO 500GB SSD - Gainward GTX 1080 GS - BenQ xl2411T 144hz - Cooler Master Haf-X Big Tower Nvidia Edition

APU is just AMD's wanky name for a CPU with an integrated GPU, so most intel CPUs are APUs.

AMD APU crossfire is not that great, if you are going to get a gaming GPU later on, chances are you cannot crossfire it with your APU, but if you are not going to get a GPU for a while, a CPU with a strong integrated is a good idea for gaming.

A AMD processor is horrible for everything compared to an Intel processor, and has been for over 5 years. Buying a AMD processor for a gaming pc today is complete nonsense.

Depends if he's got a really strict budget. If like 300$ budget then yea, an apu is good. But if its any higher than that, a intel cpu and discrete GPU is better.

NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP LEARNING. DONT LET THE PAST HURT YOU. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT

Then your friend should save up, and buy something that gives him a real gaming experience with the best performance, like a i5 6600K or an i7 6700K. Buying shit that gives poor performance is not worth in my book.
