I'm having some trouble selecting a CPU cooler for my new pc. It will have a 6600K that I plan on overclocking in the long run, but I'm not going to do it straight away.

I understand that I would probably be better of with a CPU cooler with a big stack  to conduct the heat away but I don't really want the CPU cooler to obstuct the view of the internals too much.

Is there a good option with a smaller vertical profile that won't break the bank?

Sure, there are slim heatsinks available.

Where are you shopping/located? Budget?

I live in the UK, and I'd prefer to keep it below £50 but am willing to go a bit above that if it's necessary/worthwhile.

Depending on how much you want to spend,

Pure Rock: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/cwPzK8/be-quiet-cpu-cooler-bk009

H5 Universal: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/jK8H99/cryorig-cpu-cooler-h5universal

or Macho Rev. B: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/4TCrxr/thermalright-cpu-cooler-machorevb

The Cryorig H5 (Ultimate) is probably the best bang for buck cooler.

In performance, maybe. The other two coolers are quieter though.
