So I've been overclocking my 4670k for a long time, but never on this motherboard (I think). My last motherboard had some fancy auto-voltage thing, so I never had to worry about my voltage into the cpu. This time around, I've gotten a stable overclock at 4.15 (4.2 in bios) GHz with a voltage of around 1.200v. I don't have enough experience to know if this is a good voltage to be running the cpu at. Also, as soon as I try going for 4.3 in the bios I start getting instabillity, and I'm not sure if it's because of the voltage.

Any tips?

You are fine with Voltage until you get above 1.3v then it starts getting Iffy and could potentially damage the chip and/or board.

Most likely, your chip can't do 4.3 at 1.2v. I'd say that's pretty normal. Either increase your voltage if cooling allows or leave it at that and don't rry pushing any higher. It's your choice.

So I'm 50% sure that my 3rd core is already damaged/weaker than the others, because when I try to play games at higher settings such as GTA5 or FarCry4, my entire computer will freeze unless I set the affinity to all cores but the 3rd... Any thoughts on that? I will try pushing it up to 4.5 at 2.3, if you guys agree - I don't know voltage xDxD

DO NOT GO PAST 1,3V ON THAT CPU. Unless you want to start a campfire in your PC (make sure you film it when it happens).

But anyway. Are you crashing with the 4.2 at 1.2v?

4.2 is working fine, but when I tried 4.3 on 1.2 my computer crashed on me. So if I head up to 1.3, what do you think can I push my clock up to (or should i just move it up slowly instead of starting high and moving down)? On my last computer, I SOMEHOW managed to get 6 GHz STABLE... Possibly what damaged the 3rd core

Dont go to 1.3 right away, try like 1.215v and increment .005 from there on the voltage to test.

Don't instantly go to 1.3. Slowly increment it by a notch at a time and stress to see if your cooler can handle the pressure. Once temps touch the 80, stop increasing voltage and up the multiplier as far as you can.

No, I was looking at that but it ended up being too tall for my case (which was why I had to give up on the twin frozr as well :P) it's some other, slimmer one, but I believe it has a larger fan.

MMMK, So what you want to do is once you can boot into windows after a step up stable, download Aida64 and run the test on the CPU for about 10 minutes, if it doesnt crash then you are good and stable. Then try and keep pushing it until you reach what you feel you are comfortable with on Temps as long as you dont go above 1.3v.

AIDA64 is potato. That test is rather easy to pass, especially for a mere 10 min. Get Prime95 (or even just play some games for hours if you feel like it), it would do better.

prime 95 is horrible. It will give him unrealistic results. Aida64 is much closer to what you would get under normal loads as a gamer.

Well, at least it's an actual stress test. It's rather easy to pass AIDA and still have your OC crash as soon as your throw a game, which is something that rarely hapens if you use P95. While I agree that it isn't a perfect gaming representation, P95 is far from being horrible.

You can, but will likely see very high temps on P95 compared to Aida64 and may actually hit your TJ Max where your PC may shut down abruptly due to heat.

That only happens for people that shoot for the moon on the voltages. If you take it steadly (like you should) it will never shutdown.
