I just bought a ASUS USB-N53 N600 wireless adapter today to celebrate getting fibre optics which is being installed on the 21st (woo!).

But obviously at the present moment in time I am still using my crappy ADSL network and its ancient router. My issue is that my link speed keeps fluctuating around the place, for example when I watch a YouTube video the link speed goes from 54MB all the way to 24MB and back up again. My previous adapter (Netgear WNA1100) never did this. The WNA1100 is a N150 device. Now the router on the other hand isn't even wireless N, its just a bog standard Wireless G 54MB router that was supplied by Sky.

Could my problem be a compatibility issues with the router and the adapter? Or do you guys think I have a dodgy adapter? I have tried this adapter on multiple devices and still experience the issue, also sat next to the router and tested and still experienced the issue.

Have done as much as changing the settings on the adapter and the router to try and fix it... no such luck. Only minor improvements. Also like to point out my signal is slightly worse with the new adapter as to the other adapter which gets full signal.

Sorry for the paragraph of information, its better to put it all now instead of getting a load of pointless questions before hand.

If this is on wifi, I'd say the issue is with broadcast strength.

Surely not though? Especially if i'm sat right next to the router with it.
