Hi guys,

I build a new computer, with these specs:

be quiet! Pure Power 9 300W, 300 Watt
Crucial 8 GB DDR4-2133
Intel® Core i3-6100 socket 1151
Western Digital Blue, 1 TB
MSI H110M ECO, socket 1151

I want to install windows 7 on this computer (the ISO is on a USB key).

When i am trying to install it says:

"A required CD/DVD driver is missing"

After, looking on the internet, I found this 2 possible cause/solutions.

- Using different usb port

- or the ISO is corrupted on the usb key.

I have tryed other usb ports, and I still can't install windows 7.

The ISO on the usb key works, because I tryed installing windows 7 on the hard drive on another computer and it works.

But when I insert the hard drive (with windows 7 on) in the computer (as listed above). Windows 7 on the hard drive stops working...

And I have already update the mobo to the newest UEFI/ BIOS.

Does anyone know how I can install windows 7 on the hard drive, and fix my issue? I have run out of ideas...

Any help would be appreciated.

PS. sorry for any spelling mistakes..

Be sure that you are NOT using a USB 3.0 ports. Windows 7 does not know what USB 3.0 is. Connect your USB flash drive on a USB 2.0 port.

If that does not work:

Make sure you have Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 ISO, try that.

If that doesn't help:

Is UEFI disabled? Refer to the motherboard manual on how to disable UEFI to run the system under legacy mode to emulate the old BIOS and be able to install Windows 7.

Alternatively, you can install Windows 10 and enter your Windows 7 product key to activate, it will upgrade your license from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and get to enjoy Windows 10, and your system full featured: UEFI and all

Look for w7 compatibility in BIOS, make sure USB don't run under xHCI and that you're plugging the drive in a 2.0 port. W7 doesn't have native support for skylake and a USB driver "injection" in the install drive might be needed

Okay will try that, and what do you mean with ''usb driver injection in the install drive might be needed" ?

You'd need a specific driver (normally for SATA) for it to pick up the drives and needs to be selected when you get to the part where you select the hard drive to install the OS on (however, there doesn't seem to be one specifically listed for windows 7).

Okay, well i just read the manual of the motherboard, and i says '' due to chipset limitation, during the windows 7 installation process, USB optical drives and USB pen drives e not supported '' ... well fuck me..

So installing windows 7 from a USB key is not going to work. But why doesn't a hard drive with windows 7 on, work when i plug it in the computer?

So i don't think your solution will work.. but i will give it a try :)

No it won't. Unless you are lucky, or you have an identical system to install Windows 7 there, but you'll obvious you'll fall with the same problem, has you can't.

While I am not going to deny that there is a way, and probably a fun week-end project as this is a nice challenge, if you want your system up and running as soon as possible you have 2 choices:

-> Burn the ISO to disk

-> Use that to boot to install Windows 7.

OR

upgrade to Windows 10 which is free (free upgrade offers ends July 29, 2016)

To get Windows 10:

Go to another computer, and go here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10

Click on "Download Tool now" button, to download it and once done: insert your USB flash drive, and run the downloaded tool

When you'll run it, you'll have a wizard guiding you to the process. Select that you want to install/upgrade Windows 10 for another computer (which you are), and the wizard will download Windows 10 ISO, prepare your USB flash drive, extract the ISO, and make it bootable all for you. Once done, safely eject the USB flash drive from that system, and go to your computer that you want Windows on, and insert your USB flash drive, and boot from it. You should be able to install Windows 10 just fine.

Because W7 doesn't have those USB drivers it's needed to add them, asrock has a tool for that, MSI I think has one too though I wouldn't install W7 on H110 me and another person are getting CPU performance problems (contacted MSI about it some time ago... no reply -.-), so as long you aren't using old programs just install W10

Okay, will upgrade to windows 10.

I wanted windows 7, because it is a computer for my mom. And her old computer had windows vista. So i though it would be an easy upgrade for her.

Now i will have to explain everything again to her...

But anyway thank you for your time :)
