Ultimate mATX build planning

So I will be building a mATX system and I will mod the case that I will use, so I can cooler the GPUs with no problem

I will not get the 1080, I just put it in there to get a place holder when it comes to price and watt.

Why will you not get 1080? are you getting 1080ti then? becus its not ultimate if its neither of them.

Waiting for Vega RX Fury and if that is not good and the 1080ti is better "value", then I will get the 1080ti. It is not only Nvidia that makes high end GPUs

First of all, I don't know what is the purpose of your system. Unless you do work which benefits from more cores/threads I don't think this CPU is a great choice, it's more like burning your money. But I respect your decisions about platform and CPU I just wanted you to reconsider your choice.

 

There are no problems in your future system, but I recommend you to swap out memory for 2x16GB as it will allow you to upgrade to 64GB in future. Also you can save some space by changing your system SSD to M.2 variant of 850 EVO. I modified your list with these changes, you can find it here: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/7rDFtJ

atm nvidia is only one. Vega comes in either december or next year. Hopefully they accomplish atleast 1070 perf in dx11 and opengl games so nvidia prices can drop aswell.

space does not matter, the case has two ssd mounts on the backside. I am getting that CPU because 16x SLI or CF and it will not bottleneck the GPUs as much as a i7 4770k or 6700k does and YES a 6700k will bottleneck two high end GPUs. I just put some ram in there because it had a price and was low profile and I will be getting ram that is running at 3000 MHz and up.

I will use this rig for 3D work and gaming.

Vega is rumored to be released in October and if we look at older gens then the 490 should be a 1070 in performance and the new fury should be a little over the 1080, somewhere between the 1080 and 1080ti, if it follows what has happened last gen, but who knows.

I think it's somewhat amusing that you'd drop $3k on a build with a 6850K and you'd rather cut the case for an R1 than leave your case intact with a (better) Kraken X61. 

 

I question your CPU choice, but if you're doing 3D rendering then I could see the argument for it. It's just that cooling situation that has me scratching my head.

There is space for the cooler and the cooler has a TDP of 240w (the CPU is 140w), so I can safely OC the CPU. Well I can go with a 6800k and still be okay for gaming anything lower than that and I will see a way to big bottleneck, it is just really nice to have the extra lanes, so I can add things in the future.

 

I cannot fit the Kraken X61 in the case when I am doing SLI or CF.

Why a 6850K? It performs the same as a 6800K and there is no way to justify the extra $400 dollars. If you are going to get the 6850K atleast get the 6900K.

400$ more what are you talking about? There is bearly 200$ between them and I get 12 lanes more. The 6800k has 28 lanes and the 6850k has 40 lanes. Have you also seen the OC3D video about the new Broadwell CPU's? Tiny Tom Logan says that he would get the 6850k over the 6800k if you are going to SLI or CF, because of the extra lanes.

I think you are thinking of the 6900k vs 6850k there is about 500$ in difference there.
