I'm not sure what materials to work with. I don't have a ton of scrap metal, but there is a quite a bit of old corrugated roofing material and wood leftover from a shed we built as well as a lot of thick sheet glass from a long time ago. I don't have acess to any welding equipment, but I do have a rivet gun and a lot of rivets. There's a lot of old microATX cases to canibalize things from like mounts for PSU or HDDS or If I had to use an existing motherboard tray or even fan mounts.

I do have an old fish tank, but I think it's kind of cliche. And I could always try again at this old workbench shelf I had tried a while back. I can't see myself using anything other than a MicroATX or an ITX setup.

Most motherboard trays have some kind of standoff distance between the motherboard and the tray behind like a bulge around where the screw goes in. What are some good ways of replicating that? Some kind of rubber o-ring around whatever I have going through said holes? I would probably have to replace the screws with nuts+bolts depending on what material I'm working with because I don't want to damage the motherboard and I think those are safer and more industrial looking.

Help give me some inspiration/advice please.

well, well... i love this stuff...

I would start off using an old case for the tray, that's gonna hold all the pieces in place, and it will have the screw holes in place...

Then i would build around that, innovating some kind of weird form factor, to make it original... Using risers or stuff like that...

And lastly, because i like small form factor, i would go ITX and build the most compact possible with the hardware you have available...

to dream is for free :)
