My router is being weird

I have a t mobile/asus cell spot router and I am trying to port forward which is failing each time even when the router says the port is open , I use a port checker and find that the port is still closed. I had thought that this was an issue with my isp's modem acting like a wall . After hours of being put through both Asus and Tmobile both kept telling me to talk to the other. I found that the only way to use my own router through my isp Verizon was to use Ethernet cable instead of coax to carry my internet. I ran the cable and hooked it all up where the Cellspot is the primary point of connection and should be the main control but still the same port closed problem persisted. I am so lost on what else to try as both companies seem rather useless at this point. Thank you very much for your time

Howdy,

What kind of modem did Verizon provide you with? Since the CellSpot is just a router, it'll have to get it's internet connection from somewhere. It's possible that the Verizon modem (or modem/router combo, whichever they provide) is being a pain. One of these devices has to be doing NAT, not both. Can you check what kind of IP address you're getting on your CellSpot? If this is a 192.168.... then your Verizon box is already doing NAT and giving out IP addresses to your network. You should be able to turn that off and make it a bridge and let your CellSpot do all the work. Hope this helps.

Cheers
