I am an editor and this is my first build. My budget is around $4,000.

I will be working with 4K footage, 3D animations/graphics, and possible VR work. I use Adobe Premiere and After Effects as my main software.

Here are my reasons for my parts:

CPU: Still debating the Xeon or i7 route. But the 6900K has been something I am considering.

GPU: A Quadro K4000 video card will support for 10-bit color support and Asus GTX 980ti for performance.

STORAGE:

Preditor PCI 480GB: Boot Drive

Samsung 950 256GB Pro M.2: Preview Drive (with Angelbird Wings PX1 for heat sink to allow card not to throttle)

WD Drives (RAID 0): Footage

OS: Is there any big difference between Windows 7 and 10? My feeling was to use Windows 7 since other professionals

Thanks!

Any recommendations with Xeon? Single or Dual CPU? Budget is around $4000. Thanks!

Hmmmm... a very good question... I'm probably not experienced enough to answer that, but hopefully some other users on the forum will give good advice as to which would be better. I think you should be fine with just a single CPU though.

As for a specific Xeon recommendation? I'm trying to think about how many cores would be enough for single user 4K and 3D workloads. Since it's a machine that is going be built for this type of material, it's going to for sure be above the general user 2, 4, or 6 core amounts. Hard to say which amount would be acceptable though, I've never had experience with 4K and 3D.

Bro. You have four grand, might as well get some serious cpu horsepower like a six core 6850k, or even the new 10 core if you want to be ballsy

Hope this helps!

I already have listed the 8-core 6900k in my build. Thanks.

Oh, I didn't even see the url! Well, firstly i don't think you need a CD drive worth 50 bucks, i know itsbluray but still. Also, do you really need a UPS? Do you have frequent power outages?

I need for a CD drive for my clients. I need a UPS for safety. I am a professional video editor.

Also, is there a specific reason you chose RAID 0 over the other RAID configuration options?

For redundancy.

This has been my reference guide for my parts:
