So, i mainly play games like CSGO and rocket league. (Low end GPU based games) but i need a CPU upgrade. I was thinking about the i3 6100 (Side question: Will this CPU bottleneck a GTX 970 ACX Superclocked?) back on topic, ive heard the i3 6100 is good for budget gaming ect.

Main question- What motherboard should i pair with this?

I also may go with the 6300 becuase it supports hyperthreading, thoughts?

Since you don't have a motherboard already it wont matter switching sockets. For budget gaming around $100 cpus I'd recommend amd processors. The FX 6300(http://bit.ly/1XYtrTf) or the 6350(http://amzn.to/2a7U0A1) are great choices. I've heard pretty good things about the 6100 but I don't know how well it performs.

Go with the 6300, better performance. Neither will bottleneck your 970.

What is your budget for your board? Any H110/1170 board will work just fine. Look for something your price range, color scheme, and overall what you need out of the board.

Idk about my board budget. Probably something 200 or less. Although ive heard Asrock z170 mobos can support overclocking the 6100 to 4.7 check this link http://www.techspot.com/review/1108-intel-locked-skylake-cpu-bclk-overclocking/

The i3 6100 supports hyperthreading as well.

Take this motherboard http://pcpartpicker.com/product/my4NnQ/gigabyte-motherboard-gab150mds3h

You may wonder, why not get a cheaper motherboard? The main reason I recommend this motherboard and similar B150s, is because they come with 4 RAM slots. These will let you use the additional bandwidth of a 2 stick configuration (it performs better than single-channel on many new games) while also allowing you to upgrade your RAM later on if you find that 8GB isn't enough anymore (as of right now, it's enough, but not by much)

If you want to overclock your CPU, you'll need an aftermarket cooler like a Shadow Rock Slim as well, to make sure it runs cool.

And if you do get this motherboard

Keep in mind, overclocking a locked down chip will leave you with no way to monitor its temperature, so you'll have to be careful
