Running Windows at 720p

Hey again, I've got a question that's probably pretty stupid, but I just wanted to be sure. If I'm running games at 720p, will it help me (in any way) to run windows at 720p? I'm using a 1080p monitor btw.

Like, you're saying that "you're struggling to run Windows?"  Because if that is the case, I've got a feeling your hardware is fairly helpless.

 

Windows isn't graphically intense, while technically anything running at a lower resolution will offer you better performance, but realistically you're not going to notice a difference in Windows at 4k versus 640x480...  Except its going to be a pain in the ass to use at those low resolutions.

Sorry, I should have explained myself better. If I tell windows to run the OS at 720p will it offer any performance boost when playing games at 720p? Again, it's a really dumb question, but I wanted to make sure.

Not at all.  IF there is any performance difference it would be <.01% difference.

 

I'd say the only thing that would be even noticeable is the fact that when your desktop "resizes" to 720p to launch a game your icons on the desktop might move around.  Usually they move back into place though when you go back to the original resolution.

Windows, and rendering games are different.

Games are rendered at a different resolution, which can be set within the game's settings.

And each setting is unique to that game, i.e. each game will be rendered at that resolution which you have set for each game separately. 

And since they both are different, the answer is NO, no performance boost!
