Hello guys, this is my first post here!

Im using laptop Lenovo Y550 and im having problems with drivers. I used gpu drivers from lenovos dvd(ver. 186.47) with no problems but i wanted to update them. I downloaded latest drivers from nvidia.com (tried both 313.96 beta and 314.07 whql), deleted my old drivers and installed new. But then Ive started to have troubles. My resolution dropped from default 1366x768 to 1280x720 and I cant change it, nvidia control panel is not available, in device manager display adapter have an error.

Can someone help me? I really want to keep my driver up to date.

The after pictures shows that the drivers were not installed.

When you install the Nvidia drivers, go under advance, and check the box to do a clean install. Also, uncheck the box for all that Nvidia 3D stuff. Once it's done, restart your computer.

If that doesn't work, try these drivers doing the same:

Thanks for reply!

I've already tried every type of installation: clean and not clean, with 3d stuff and with only graphics driver. But it doesn't help.

310.90 driver doesn't work too. The only working drivers are from lenovo's dvd.

Ok. The problem is simple. Lenovo asked (probably with money) Nvidia for exclusive specif model of teh card. OEM does that, to use lower end memory, or other cheaper quality components, or down clock it to reduce battery usage. OEM's figures that you won't mind, as you don't know any better, as you are not buying a gaming laptop, and just got the laptop because it says "Nvidia" on it. Same thing with AMD by the way. OEM's basically goes "We want to put your GPU, but it costs money.. and we don't like spending money, and you want your GPU out there... lets make a deal".

So how to fix this. Not too hard actually, there is a site called LaptopVideo2Go which modifies the driver inf file, to include all laptop GPU, and makes it possible for the correct drivers to be installed correctly and used. Now the site stop producing Vista and 7 64-bit inf, and only makes the Windows 8 32/64-bit. However, I don't think it makes a difference as the drivers on Nvidia website for Vista, 7 and 8 are all the same. All you have to do, is override the inf file that you download from the site for the correct driver version, where Nvidia setup extract the drivers for installation (See: C:\Nvidia\ folder to see the extracted driver files).

Here is the website: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers

Here is a direct link download to the .inf file for the driver 314.07: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/infs/310series/31407_win8x64/nvwin.inf

If the above still doesn't work, then probably Lenovo as far as making their own firmware to lock it down to Lenovo support. Possibly Lenovo thinks it would be a good way for you to buy a new laptop from them ('cause that worked so well with printer manufactures and other computer peripherals and internal sound cards (right, Creative?) when Vista was release).
