I easily overclock my GTX 960, and it's only $200, but if it's a high end gpu your looking for, I would definitely recommend the 1060, or the RX 480, but not really the 970, the 1060 is looking to be as or more powerful than a 980, now that would just be a waste huh? (1060 is said to not be able to run in SLI, so I would recommend an RX 480 if you plan to get another one and do crossfire.)

a 6600K will not bottleneck a 1080. The reason you might see a 6700K perform better than a 6600K in games is that the game is more optimized for 8 threads. If you pair a R7 370+6600K and a R7 370+6700K you are also going to see improvements with the 6700K. The 6600K and 6700K are fine for 1080s and 1070s.

6600K bottlenecks a Titan X in all scenarios (6700K in less, but still in many games). So fair to assume that both of them will bottleneck the 1070/1080.

GPU Usage is the only way to calculate "Bottlenecking" If a GPU is performing at close to 100% GPU usage with a 6600K then it is not bottlenecked.

Not true. If limiting the CPU in any way reduces the FPS, then the GPU is being bottlenecked. And the usage way is also a valid option.

Could also be that a game or application is optimized for Hyperthreading.

What kind of "heavy overclocking" are you talking about?

 

Most amd cards are good for pushing voltage because of the overkill components that amd uses on the reference cards. 

 

If you want to practise, i suggest a reference 290/x and go bananas on it. 

 

Nvidia cards are easier to volt mod if you're into that.
