Plan for “Eclipse engine I”

Basic info:

The basic engine will provide scripts and layout for main movements (Walking, Running, Crawling, Crouching, Jumping etc.), melee weapon combat (1 handed weapons, 2 handed weapons, Axe, Sword, Mace etc.), Armour types, Materials, and the relations between Armour types and metals and weapon type and metals.

Movement:

The main part of the engine will be realistic movement. Animations will be created for the movements along with using realistic statistics to give a portrayal of how a real person would move. This is crucial for VR. Possibilities for version II would be correlation between movement and material on ground (Water, Rock, Grass etc.).

Combat:

The main style of combat for version I will be melee combat. This will include animations for arm movement, correlation to camera movement, and style and material or weapons to account for movement through the air. Possibilities for version 2 include ranged weapons such as bows.

Armour:

Version I’s focus for armour will be movement speed in all aspects, weight and it’s relation to other aspects of the engine, its materialistic relation to weapon attacks, and damage. This aspect will also use realistic statistics on weight. Possibilities for version II include location of attack for relation to strength of armour.

Materials:

Version I’s focus for materials is there statistics for weapons and armour and how the 2 interact with each other. Possibilities for version II include strength of materials, effect on health by using them, and general wear ability.

Plans/Possibilities for “Eclipse engine II”

Food/Water:

One plan is to add food and water to the game. Different foods would have different effects on the body using real statistics. Things like Allergies would be in character creation. Water would have different effects depending on its location and its cleanliness. Things like diseases could come from food and water.

Damage/Health:

Damage will be calculated by location hit on the body, type of armour worn, and type of weapon. Things like broken bones, internal bleeding will be added. Different skin damage could also occur. Health will be based off of real life statistics and how survivable certain conditions are.

Disease:

Disease will occur from things like contaminated food or water, injuries, or random occurrences of disease. Diseases will be able to be treated in different ways depending on disease.

Character creation:

Character creation will be given a huge improvement with the ability to add models for things like hair, body shape, eyes, etc. Character creation will also allow for certain perks and for certain attributes.

Other notes:

This is a project me and @Clanscorpia are working on, he wrote the whole document up there ^^^ and he's the one who came up with the idea so he deserves most of the credit. Neither of us are particularly good at programming but we're going to learn and make this as good as possible, we don't currently have a release date but that's why this thread exists, if anyone has suggestions feel free to comment them.

-Created with Unity and Visual Studio

Yes, completely open source. I thought of this because I hate the shitty Skyrim combat engine, (Still love the game :p) and wanted more games with realistic combat

Nice, I'll drop a follow :)

One of my biggest interests when it comes to game engines is how it interfaces with Hardware, even though I don't know much about how that works

Well, Unity is the real engine, our program is just a bunch of underlying scripts that connect normally separate parts of code

I gotcha. What do you call what goes on top of an engine? The hood xD

I think I'll still call it engine

Another main focus for me is realism. A lot of the data will be statistical in version I but in version II I hope to relate the movement and weapon swing etc on in game stats based off of real stats

I'm moving this to the Programming section, since "Build Logs" is for following a PC build with pictures and whatnot.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Yes please link that thread.  That is odd that the other thread was in build logs too.  I'm going to ask some other mods.  It can always get moved again :)

Oops, the post I was thinking of was for trading a game code. I feel like I asked someone though :/ Where would the log go though?

The thing is neither of your posts (the minecraft one or this) fall under what the "build logs" section is intended for.  It's really just a diary of building your PC and that's it.  Like I said, I'm getting feedback from other mods to make sure though.

Just wanted to update you on how this is going.  This one definitely does belong in Programming.  It's the right area, and it just makes sense.  It's no less prestigious or anything like that, so you shouldn't worry about where it is; the purpose is just to keep things organized.

As for the other one where you did the minecraft thing and are tracking your other projects, it's a real stumper :P  We've never had to categorize anything quite like it...

I believe we've solved it :D Your ongoing post where you keep track of the 7 projects should be a blog:) Each project should probably  be a normal thread, in one section or another depending on content, but that "hub" that ties it all together really should be a blog.

C#. That's what Unity uses

Is there any reason you’re using C# besides the fact that it’s what Unity uses?

Are you programming an engine yourself, or just creating systems for an overworld/combat on top of the Unity engine? I wouldn’t call it an engine if the latter is the case; Unity provides the graphics engine and abstractions for what you’re doing, really.

As I explained earlier, it's just a set of scripts added onto Unity to connect aspects of combat normally unconnected
