Hey guys, I've heard you like ghetto things :D
So I'm about to get a 480 but not the stock one and meanwhile I'm waiting I got an EVGA gtx 570 from ebay cos my previous card died. I got it like a month ago, was perfectly working, although it's running on 45 stock and around 97 on full load (yep it's a crazy card I've heard from other people). So anyways 2 days ago i noticed my fans were making strange noise. The fans were between 50-90% but the rmp was like 60 instead of 3-4k. Guess what? They died. Well I guess i got unlucky, but what can I do i bought it from ebay already used. I didn't want to buy another one just for waiting a few weeks, so i tried to figure out how can I fix the problem. I got an old Sapphire Radeon 4870 beast that I'm not using so i thought maybe i can use it's heatsink and fans, because why not lol. But no I couldn't manage it because of its size. Whatever. And then I thought I'll leave the heatsink as it is, and just try to mount somehow the fan on it from the radeon. How? Hell yea the ghetto way. I saw so many pictures with ghetto cooling and it worked so why not. Then I've noticed that I have also a few spare amd stock coolers for cpu which I can use. Well the pins were not the same, so i plugged it into motherboard lol. Then finally I turned it on, the fans were spinning everything looked great. Time to check the temps. I've noticed that the actual temperature was lower than the one with the gpus cooler. lel. I did a stress test, the temps stayed under 82C so i guess it's a 15c improvement.
Here are some pics
