Hi all,

I recently bought a new UPS (uninterrupted power supply) called a "CyberPower Value GP 1500VA Line interactive UPS" (I live in Australia). I was wondering is it bad for my computer to freeze for about 1-2 seconds when my power goes out before my UPS kicks in?

Cheers,

Callan

From my understanding of UPS's they have internal batteries, these batteries will charge up as long as there's power supplied to it, and i THINK that the power would then flow to the pc or what ever else you have plugged into it.

So, the batteries are charging while your doing the 5 knuckle shuffle then BOOM the mains power goes out, This is when the pc will the run off of the UPS. The UPS you have chosen im guessing would be able to run for an hour or two after power loss. Within this time you should have recognised the loss of mains power and saving/closing all important work. Then put the computer into a safe shutdown (just a normal shutdown).

When the power 'switches' from the mains to batteries i dont think there will be a freeze. so i think your safe on that.

just my understanding (probably incorrect but hey ho..) of UPS's
