So would a motherboard with it saying crossfire still allow it to how 2 nvida gpus in sli.

If it doesnt say it can sli and doesnt include sli bridge, then its pretty sure that you cant do sli with the mobo

Sli requires each GPU to be on a x8 or x16 slot electrically 

Crossfire is fine with x4

So mobo manufacturers may put a x16 slot but only wire it for x4
