Well this is my first x99 build and hopefully my only x99 build. I went with the 6800k because let's face it, it's the most logical Broadwell-E CPU to get. 200 dollars more to get .2 GHz isn't really worth it imo. I went with the MSI X99A Gaming Pro Carbon because it was in stock when I bought the parts that I needed. It was between the MSI board or the Asus ROG Strix board. Only reason I wanted the Asus board was for the built in WiFi but I didn't really like the RGB lights on the PCI-E lanes. I chose the EVGA 980 ti because it was out of my old build and I still have time to use their step-up program. I plan on getting the 1080 Hybrid when that releases. 32 gb of HyperX 2133 because it's black and I think it looks good. I went with the NZXT Kraken x61 because I dont have the money to do a custom loop. That is in the plans though ;). I threw in a Samsung 850 EVO 500gb that was being unused in another build as well as 1tb of WD Black. The case I chose was the NZXT H440 because I like the minimalistic look of it.

To be fair, you also get 12 more processing lanes with the 6850k compared to the 6800k.

to be fair that is all you're paying for. they will OC to the same level. Now, there are scenarios where those lanes could prove useful, but still.

That is true. I dont plan on doing any sli so those extra lanes would be pretty much useless

Yeah I know, I agree it is still a ripoff, but if you are doing for way SLI you need 40 processing lanes.

I love hearing about x99 builds.  Congrats man.  Enjoy the power!

Time to beef up them tables now.  :P

I know right xD. They were just a couple of pieces of scrap MDF that I had painted black.

I plan on buying an i7 6800k aswell. I will try to get the Asus ROG Strix X99 though. Anyways my questions is:

Do you notice the performance drop in single core applications in comparison to the i7 6700k?

I plan on video editing and high quality picture editing ( the reason why I would like to buy this CPU ) but I´d like to game on it extensivley too. Is there going to a noticable difference between the 6800k and 6700k?

I haven't noticed any difference between the 2.
