Hi All,

So I want to practice building some linux servers and I was going to use a VPS for this, but I am stuck on what provider maybe best.

Linode offers for $10 a month 2GB RAM, 1 CPU Core, 24GB SSD, 2TB transfer 40Gbps Network in and 125Mbps out.

Digital ocean for same price offer 1GB memory 1 Core 30GB SSD 2TB transfer.

I am unsure of other providers.

Who would you suggest?

Thanks

I have used OVH

They have packages like:

7.40€/month

4 GB ram
SSD 20 GB
Local RAID 10

14.90€/month

2 cores

These have unlimited bandwidth and a 100/100 connection.

Scaleway is about the same price as OVH, both offer a $3 a month VPS with bare minimum specs like 2gb of ram and not a whole lot of disk space. Scaleway gives you another core, at the cost of being located in France, so bandwith isn't amazing.

not too bothered about bandwidth, its just to practice commands, although when pulling stuff from repos could be an issue.

Oh, pulling stuff from repos is fine, that's what mirrors are for. Lots of services actually set up their own mirrors so stuff like that is pretty fast, though of course if you add your own repos that might not be the same thing. If you're just looking to practice, you might want an OVH server.
