i am planning to buy 6700k, but i dont want to oc it, but maybe some time in the future i might want to oc it, its nice to know that i have the choice to oc when i want it. but, i am not familiar with iccpu so i got several questions regarding 6700k:

1. is it always overclocking when i am using it on my pc?

2. or i have to do the necessary steps first to overclock it?

3. if no.2 is yes, so i can use it as normal cpu and oc it when i want ti, right?

1. No

2. Yes

3. Yes

When you overclock its something you do to the CPU itself in the bios, it doesn't come overclocked by default. If you're planning on buying one, keep in mind that they don't come with coolers (at least mine didn't) so you'll want to get an aftermarket cooler to fit the LGA1151 socket!

Don't forget, you'll need a Z170 mobo as well.

Only 170 if he plans on overclocking, that socket also has the H170 and H110 chipsets

Pretty sure that means he plans on OCing eventually... he shouldn't even be buying the 6700k otherwise.

Intel made this decision because anyone overclocking their cpu should know the intel cooler is not adequate, so it saved them the cost of including a paperweight with the cpu

got it.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a 'Z170' It just has to have a 'Z' at the start. Don't get to caught up about just having to get a 'Z170' bro, so just make sure It has a 'Z' at the start of the mobo name

Z97

Z87. etc

None of those will work with a 6700k. So yeah, it has to be Z170 for OCing.

Really? I thought that just any 'Z' series mobo supported overclocking?

They do, but only Z 170 mobos support the 6700k, so...
