I am trying to salvage an old computer of mine to play newer games, and would like to know if it would be a waste of time and money.

The system specs are :

CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-950 Processor (8M Cache, 3.06 GHz, 4.80 GT/s Intel® QPI)

Motherboard: GA-X58A-UD3R Intel® X58 + ICH10R Chipset

PowerSupply: 500w

Ram: 8Gb

Storage: 2 - 1 terrabyte sata hard drives

Video Card: Saphire Radeon Hd 5750 1Gb DDR 5

Case: Coolermaster HAF 920 with Tooless all that jazz.

Any advice to make this old system run new games would be appreciated seeing as my wallets a little tight but I can save for new components. I want to max out this old system to its best specs and call it a day if possible. please and thank you for any help at all. If it looks like a lost cause please show me a newer budget build that can run games like the new Doom but still has upgrade potential to get better. I have tried to do the research and get lost in trying to sort out how to build a new system. Again please and thank you for the help.

I took some pictures to show exactly what im dealing with.

oh and its current os is Windows 7 ultimate, I plan on upgrading to 10.

The other issue i face which i dont know where to begin is when i hit the power button the computer turns on and turns off 3 or 4 times before finally staying on.

In the long run i will be getting a different case, this one is too big and bulky. I might just turn it later into a big old server case or something. But i will be doing a liquid cooling loop on this system, and getting some SSDs + a new PSU. This was my first custom pc I picked my own parts for and assembled. So if I can squeeze more use out of it I would love that.  I am even willing to try to get 2 decent GPUs and run them in crossfire or however Nvidia does 2 cards as well. Im still a newbie when it comes to building, modding, or making anything happen with my PCs. Below is a picture of the new case where this will be housed, or the new system I build will be housed.81%2BkdHo9IuL._SL1500_.jpg

you have enough ram.

you need a new power supply and a new graphics card.

I wouldn't touch Windows10 with a 20 foot pole.

your cpu will let you down when playing some newer games. "last" gen games suffer because of it.... ( but you can still use it )

What wrong with Windows 10? xD

Gaming Rig:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3600X @ 4.1GHz All Cores - Ram: 16GB Corsair VENGEANCE - GPU: 5600XT MSI Gaming X - Storage: Samsung EVO 840 250GB - 2TB Seagate Drive OS: Win10

HTPC Rig:
CPU: i5 6400 - Ram: 16GB - GPU: 970 GTX - Storage: 120 Kingston SSD & 2x 1TB Seagate Drive OS: Win10

Why?

I mean, I don't mean to sound like a dick, but if we're going for value, you're going to get more upgrading your motherboard and CPU than you will trying to deck out this old antiquated platform. There are single GPUs that would max out your CPU as it stands, so going crossfire or SLI seems like a bad plan, as you're just going to be setting yourself up to deal with compatibility issues.

I see, and no worries I got some thick skin lol. What would a decent build for todays games look like for cost if you dont mind recommending one. I am willing to buy and build a new system but I want it last for a while. If I am looking at building a new system though, I will be building 2 new systems as my wife will also be needing a new rig very soon. So thats why i started looking at my old system and wondering if there are any miles left on those tires or if its just too old to hack it anymore. But before i would ever junk this system I would just build an arcade stand for it and then play whatever console style games i could throw at it.
