Roccat Tyon Latency

I recently purchased a Roccat Tyon Black and have been having some issues with it.

I wanted to use the side buttons in games like BF4 and Rainbow 6 Siege but they seem to have some lag or latency.  When I actuate the two side buttons or the side "throttle" they work sometimes but not always.  It often takes 3 or 4 presses before the programmed function is performed.  I haven't had this issue with my old logitech G700s and checked that it isn't the hardware by opening word and pressing the buttons.  The programmed letters are typed instantaneously so I'm confused as to whether its the Roccat software or the games or maybe it's too many processes running on my computer at once.

I am using an HP Omen laptop with a 960m and 16 gig of ram with all of the most recent intel, nvidia, and roccat drivers.

If anyone else has this problem or knows a fix I'd greatly appreciate it, I've done the windows defender fix and have tried compatibility mode but the compatibility seems to exacerbate the problem.
