Lately I have been getting a problem when booting my computer from a complete shutdown. When I press the power button, the computer starts up for about 3 seconds, then shuts off for about 5 seconds and then starts up again. Nothing seems out of the ordinary in the BIOS and the problem only occurs when starting the computer from a complete shutdown and not a restart. Any help would be appreciated (:

SOLVED! Thank you!

I had a problem similar to yours and it proved to be the power supply. I can't tell that this is obviously the same case for you but it's a starting point.

Also when I had the same problem the situation got worse with time and that was what made me open the PSU and I saw that some capacitors were busted.

Have you tried restoring your OS to a previous state? If the OS is not the problem, I would try loading the default BIOS settings and booting with a different power supply, hoping you have access to one. If the power supply is the problem, replace it ASAP for perhaps it's a matter of time before it dies and potentially fries part of your rig.

If the power supply is fine, there has to be something wrong with the motherboard, in which case I wouldn't know what to do...I don't think losing 8 seconds at startup justifies replacing a motherboard.

I would think Power Supply as well, at least check your voltages in the BIOS to try and help rule it out. If it is within the time you specify your computer would be going through a POST and could be finding an issue with initial PSU voltage, enough so that it forces a reboot. Check out your voltages and let us know what you find.

Also if you use a 24 pin extension cable try taking it out and hooking the 24 pin connector straight to the motherboard and see if you still have issues. Same for if you are using an 8 pin power plug extension. Just a thought.
