Steam Harddrive

cubies1982

Hey,

Does anyone know if it's possible to install all my Steam games onto an external harddrive so if I have to reformat or reinstall Windows after changing hardware I could simply reconnect my external harddrive and start playing my video games again? Or if I visit a friends house I could just connect my external harddrive to his computer and I'll have all my games fully patched without having to download them all again?

Sure, you just need to create a Steam folder on that disk (You can do that in settings I believe) and then choose it while you're downloading the game.

Will there be any complications when I connect the external harddrive?

There shouldn't be any as far as the Steam folder remains untouched and if you use the same account.

You could use an SSD for it like i'm going to do, fast games B|

And note that when you reinstall windows you have to reinstall steam. And then in the fresh copy of steam you have to re-configure your hard drive in your steam settings. Then steam will think it's not installed but just install it in the same folder on that hard drive (D:/Steam for example).

Within a second it knows it's already installed and ready 2 play.

How do you re-configure your harddrive in Steam settings?

It won't show the games installed with white text even though they're installed?
