I'm just going to put this out there now, this is partly theoretical.  I'm not actually sure I will/would do this.

So I was looking around at hard drive options for my first semi-upcoming build and stumbled across the idea of running 2 (or more) SSDs in RAID 0.  So of course I know that If I were to go with this option, I would need to make sure to have constant backups due to the fact that the chance of loosing all my data is doubled if I have 2 drives.  However, my question is this: How big should my backup drive be? Say I was to get 2 250GB SSDs.  Would it be ok to have a backup HDD that is about 550?  Or would it be wiser to have a larger one that could store multiple instances of my drives at once?  I would be on a budget so I'm basically wondering if I can cut prices and get a 500GB instead of a 1 or 2 TB drive for my backup.  Thanks In advance!

If you were to get the smaller capacity, then you would have to destroy the previous image before making the new one.The issue with that is what happens if the RAID fails after you deleted the old image but haven't made the new one yet. 1TB drives are fairly cheap as it is.
