So I've seen the benchmarks and they aren't as promising as I thought. Now I am debating whether to get a GTX 970 or RX 480 8gb. From the benches it seems that the 970 beats it in a lot of games. What should I do?

Negative. Okay, so I'm a nVidia Fanboy. That being said, the RX480 is just as good as the GTX 970. You got to understand that's founders card vs founders card. The aftermarket cards will be just as good as the 970 aftermarket cards. And its 60 bucks cheaper. So, basically wait for the aftermarket one, buy it for less than the 970 and get the exact same performance. Now the AMD card is not as overclockable, but if you are just using the card out of the box with turbo speeds, it will be just as good as the 970 at a cheaper price.

In essence:

GTX 970 FE=RX 480 FE

GTX 970 Aftermarket = RX 480 Aftermarket probably

GTX 970 is $260-320< RX480 $200-260

Oh... assuming that you can get either of them for the same price, here's a few thing you need to consider.

1. RAM: The 970 have the famous problem of only having 3.5+0.5 GB of RAM, which make it performance become worst in higher resolution or games that required more RAM. The 480 have the 8GB version which will be enough for almost everything.

2. Feature: Nvidia software have the advantage now with the Shadow Play, the buildin recording software. If you go with AMD you dont have anything equivalent to this. On the other hand on AMD you have FreeSync, so if you buy a new monitor a FreeSync certified monitor will be cheaper than Nvidia's counterpart: GSync

3: DX12: As far as it goes, 480 will perform better than 970 in any DX12 games, it's suppose to be what newer games will be build upon BUT it turn out that most dev still stick with DX11. in DX11 970 edge out a little bit.

4. OCing: The 970 Have been out for a long time = there's tons of AIB card with way better OC capacity and cooler. 480 on the other hand dont have many AIB yet, and even with AIB card it seem like the OC of the 480 isnt really as high as 970.

SO it's up to you to consider all those point before you decided.
