MATX Upgrade

Hello, im planning on upgrading my current PC with the new Skylake CPU.

Do you guys think this is a good upgrade?

 

Current Specs:

MSI 760GM - E51

AMD Phenom II 1055T OC to 3.4GHZ

8GB Corsair Vengence LP

ASUS Geforce GTX970 STRIX

OCZ 500W Modular PSU

Antec Khuler 620

Fractal Design Core 1000

Samsung 850 EVO 250GB

WD 1TB HDD x2

 

What i already have:

Corsair RM750x

Corsair Obsidian 350D

 

Upgrade:

Asus Maximus VIII Gene ( i have always wanted to run SLI in a MATX build )

Intel 6700k / 6600k

16GB any DDR4

Depends on what will you do with it.

If it's just for gaming, then no. Neither is your desire to do SLI.

Would getting a cheaper motherboard such as the MSI Z170M Mortar a better idea?

Motherboards don't really matter, as long as it has the required features and ports you desire at a reasonable price point. A more expensive motherboard will get you better overclocking components, more features and ports.
